Substitute for Mozzarella - Best Alternatives
Mild, stretchy Italian cheese. Melts beautifully on pizza, in lasagna, and caprese salads.
Substitutes
- Cheddar — 1:1. Cheddar melts well but has sharper flavor. Better for quesadillas and grilled cheese than pizza.
- Gouda — 1:1. Gouda melts well with a slightly nutty, sweet flavor. Works on pizza, sandwiches, and gratins.
- Ricotta Cheese — 1:1. Ricotta won't stretch or melt the same, but works as a filling substitute in lasagna and stuffed shells.
- Cream Cheese — 3/4 cup cream cheese per 1 cup mozzarella. Cream cheese melts into a creamy texture but won't stretch. Best in dips and baked pasta.
