Substitute for Feta - Best Alternatives

Substitutes
- Ricotta Cheese — 1:1 (add pinch of salt). Ricotta salata is closest. Regular ricotta is milder and creamier — add salt for tang.
- Cottage Cheese — 1:1 (drain well, add salt). Drained cottage cheese crumbles similarly. Less tangy — season with lemon juice and salt.
- Queso Fresco — 1:1. Queso fresco has similar crumbly texture. Milder and less salty than feta.
- Gouda — 1:1. Very different flavor profile — gouda is sweet and buttery. Only for melted applications.
- Cream Cheese — 3/4 cup cream cheese + 1 tsp lemon juice per 1 cup feta. Cream cheese with lemon juice mimics feta's tang. Best in dips and spreads.
