Substitutes
Sriracha — 1:1. Sriracha is sweeter and garlicky. Similar heat level. Works in any application calling for hot sauce.
Tabasco Sauce — 1:1. Tabasco is thinner and more vinegary. Classic hot sauce that works identically in most recipes.
Sambal Oelek — 1:1. Sambal oelek is chunkier with pure chili flavor. Less vinegary but provides similar heat.
Chili Garlic Sauce — 1:1 (thin with a little vinegar or water if needed). Chili garlic sauce gives similar heat with more body and garlic flavor. Thin it slightly when you need a pourable hot sauce for eggs, noodles, or wings.
Chili Flakes — 1/4 tsp chili flakes per 1 tsp hot sauce. Chili flakes provide dry heat without the vinegar tang. Good for cooking but not as a table condiment.
